OOTD & Makeup for November’s Birthstones: Citrine & Topaz

Hello, my pretties.  This month’s inspiration comes from November’s birthstones, in which there are two: Citrine and Topaz.  We’ll start with Citrine, a gemstone that is widely available and therefore, one of the more affordable gemstones.

Citrine is the French word for “lemon”, which makes sense considering how close it sounds to “citrus”.  Accordingly, this gemstone comes in a wide range of colors from lemon-yellow to an orange-brown.  They also come in a reddish-brown, which is the color that is most sought after.  During ancient times, citrines were used to protect one from “snake venom and evil thoughts”.  Today, citrines are “associated with prosperity and success”.

Topazes usually come in shades of yellow, orange, and brown but they also come in shades of red, green, and blue.  Sometimes they are colorless.  The Imperial Topaz, which has orange and pink undertones, is the most prized topaz.  Blue is a popular color for the topaz, due to the ability to chemically enhance the color.  However, blue topazes found in nature are rare.  The ancient Egyptians and Romans believed that the topaz was a gift from the sun and had “the power to protect and heal”.

Here’s what I wore.  I felt like a “jazz lady” after I dolled myself up to go nowhere in particular:

Here’s my makeup.  Since the theme is topaz, I donned my bronze eye-shadow and added small, black “jewels”:

That’s all for now.  Next week is Thanksgiving here in the US and before you know it, the year 2015 will be long gone.  Wowzers.

Love & Shimmies,

Dasia Denise

    1. Why thank you, Vulcan. This is a nice shade to wear if I just want a little sparkle, since the bronze is very close to my skin tone.
