Hello, lovelies! Today’s look is inspired by September’s birthstone, Sapphire. Due to its blue color, sapphires have represented hope, faith, and “divine favor” during ancient and Medieval times. “Medieval clergy wore sapphires to symbolize heaven”, while the common people believed that sapphires brought heavenly blessings. Sapphires also represented wisdom, and was cherished by royalty since ancient Greece.
Sapphires come in many colors including green, blue, violet, and even black. However, sapphires do not come in red. “Red sapphires” are actually rubies, both gems being a form of corundum. The most prized sapphires are “medium to medium dark blue or slightly violet-blue”.
Star sapphires occur when corundum is grown “with fibrous inclusions of rutile“. When these stones are cut into cabochons, small rays of light are reflected, creating six (sometimes twelve) rays. The rays form a star and appear to glide across the stone when turned. Star sapphires in a pale, cornflower blue are the most prized. The most well known star sapphire is the Star of India, which was found around 300 years ago. It is housed at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. The three rays that make up the six-pointed star represent “faith, hope and destiny”.

Here’s what I wore. This is one of my favorite looks. It’s long, flowy, and very comfortable. It’s also a pretty simple outfit and goes well with my felt hat.
Here’s my makeup. I’ve had this blue eyeshadow for awhile and wasn’t sure if I could pull this color off. But it’s a perfect shade of sapphire blue – very striking.
Sapphire is another one of my favorite birthstones and I felt lovely wearing this ensemble. Of course, there’s an OOTD video. TTFN!
