Back From The Ashes: April, May & June

Birthstone pics via Photobucket.  Birthstone info via Crystal Vaults and American Gem Society®.

Hello, lovelies!  It’s been SIX MONTHS (gasp!) since my last blog post.  Since starting my YouTube channel, I’ve been busy creating videos and unfortunately, I’ve had little time to focus on my blog.  I was also laid-off from my job in June, so my mental state has gone through ups and downs.  But no worries – I’m back and ready to rock!

Since my main way of communicating is through video, this blog will be a landing page for my channel.  Even though I haven’t posted anything here since March, I have been making videos every week.  So, for the next few weeks, we’re going to play catch-up.  Stay tuned for new videos, as well as some older videos that I have not posted here.

This post will feature the monthly birthstone looks that have not been posted here.  Here are the OOTD videos and information for the birthstones of April, May, and June.  Yikes!  I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

APRIL – Diamond

This look was inspired by April’s birthstone, Diamond. You can’t go wrong with all-black and gothic bling!  Diamond is the hardest gemstone and is known as the “King of Gems” (the “Queen of Gems” is Pearl).

TITLES: The King of Gems, The Stone of Invincibility

COLORS: Colorless, white, black, yellow, pink, brown, blue, green, and red

CHAKRA: Crown (7)

ZODIAC SIGN:  Aries (March 21 – April 19)

SYMBOLIZES: Purity, Innocence, Love, Fidelity, Strength

MAY – Emerald

This look was inspired by May’s birthstone, Emerald. Green is one of my favorite colors in goth fashion, with so many shades to choose from.  Lime green is another favorite of mine.

TITLE: The Stone of Successful Love

COLORS: Shades of yellow-green, green, and blue-green

CHAKRA: Heart (4)

ZODIAC SIGN:  Taurus (April 21 – May 21)

SYMBOLIZES: Spring, Renewal, Growth, Youth, Hope

JUNE – Pearl

As the temperatures rose, it was time to step out in summer goth fashion. I’m wearing black pearls and black roses – birthstone and flower for the month of June.  It’s also the first time in many years that I decided to sport blue lipstick.  Pearls are the oldest, known gemstone and are the only birthstones made by living creatures.

TITLE: The Queen of Gems

COLORS: Various colors including white, pink, cream, brown, green, blue, black, and iridescent

CHAKRA: Sacral (2)

ZODIAC SIGN:  Gemini (May 22 – June 21)

SYMBOLIZES: Purity, Innocence, Truth, The Moon

That’s it for today, my lovelies.  There have been so many changes since I last posted, with YouTube, Photobucket, etc.  Basically, sites are slamming down the gauntlet, making it much more difficult to use photos and monetize videos.  The good news is that I LOVE making videos and blogging, so I have no choice but to adapt to the changes.  We’ll see what happens.

Peace, love, and darkness,

Dasia Denise

OOTD & MOTD for April’s Birthstone: Diamond

Gemstone pics via Photobucket.  Gemstone info via Crystal Vaults.

This look is inspired by the most popular gemstone, Diamond.  Arguably the most expensive, diamonds are not as rare as was previously thought (sapphires and rubies are more rare).  The diamond was known as the “King of Gems” in antiquity, when diamonds were as rare as rubies.  Due to the mining and commercialization of diamonds in the modern era, the “King of Gems” title has been given to the ruby, July’s birthstone.

Although not as rare as sapphires and rubies, diamonds are still expensive and symbolize wealth, accumulation, and abundance.  Due to its rarity and beauty, the diamond also symbolizes purity and innocence, as well as “strength in character, ethics, and faithfulness to oneself and others”.  Diamonds are the hardest natural substances on Earth and are used for many things we use today, such as drill bits and laboratory instruments.  Due to their ability to conduct heat and electricity, diamonds are also used to coat microchips and other items.

TITLE: The Crystal of Light

COLORS: Colorless, but also forms in other colors (see Types)

TYPES: White, champagne, yellow, blue, green, orange, brown, purple, and pink (the most rare and expensive diamonds)

Weighing 45.52 carats, the Hope Diamond is the largest, deep blue diamond in the world and radiates a red glow after exposure to ultraviolet light. The Hope Diamond is currently insured for $250 million. (Info via Wikipedia)

ZODIAC SIGN: Aries (March 21 – April 19)

DEITY: Angerona, Roman goddess of silence and the Goddess of Winter Solstace.  Protector of secrets and brings forth the New Year.

DIVINATION: “Proof of your abilities will come from an unexpected source.”

CHAKRA: Crown (7)

HEALING PROPERTIES: Relieves fear and anxiety, unifies the mind and body,   purifies and strengthens brain function, nerves, and sensory organs

Here’s what I wore.  It goes without saying that April’s birthstone calls for BLING:

PROJECT 666 Staples – Long-sleeve shirt (S2), Crystal rhinestone leggings (P6), “Spinning Skirt” (Skt4), Platform ankle boots (B4), Velvet scarf (Scf1)

Velvet scarf: National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), Long-sleeve shirt: The Gap, “Spinning Skirt”: Flying Skirts, Crystal rhinestone leggings: Kalypso Blue (Etsy), Platform boots: Doc Martens (brand)

Here’s my makeup.  Eyes are glittery and my face bejeweled:

Accessories purchased on Etsy. Black flower spray hair clip: Endless Flowers, Ebony wood stud earrings: House of Shiba, “Resplen-dance” pendant: Sciscitor

This was one of my favorite looks.  Who can resist diamonds (fake or real) set against black?  I hope you enjoy my modeling “skills” (ha!) in the OOTD video. Until next time…

Love & Shimmies,

Dasia Denise

OOTD & Makeup for April’s Birthstone: Diamond

It’s time to bring out the bling for April’s birthstone, the Diamond.  Supposedly, a girl’s best friend and the most commercialized stone, thanks to De Beers©.  But, we can’t deny how gorgeous they are, just like the other birthstones.

While most diamonds are colorless, they can also come in a range of colors such as blue, yellow, green, red, purple, pink, and black.  The colored diamonds found in nature get their color from impurities in the stone.  For example, the yellow found in yellow diamonds get their color from small traces of nitrogen; blue diamonds have small traces of boron.   Colored diamonds found in nature are rare.  Since colored diamonds are rare, most colorless diamonds are color-treated.  Due to the controversy surrounding “blood diamonds“, you can also buy man-made diamonds, in which you can only tell by using a loupe.

Diamonds were “thought to provide the wearer with better relationships and an increase in inner strength”.  Diamonds are also worn to promote “balance, clarity, and abundance”.  They signify eternal love.

Here is yesterday’s outfit.  Perfect time to wear my rhinestone leggings, peaking out beneath my skirt:

A skirt made for belly dancing passes my “spin test”. Of course!

25-yd. skirt and tabi boots: Ebay, Rhinestone leggings: Kalypso Blue (Etsy)

Large, clear-colored bindi: SewFae (Etsy), Leather choker: Ego Driven (Etsy), Tish & Snooky t-shirt: Manic Panic® (Ebay)

Here’s my makeup.  Nothing but white sparkles.  Cheap, inexpensive sparkles, but still – they’re the only “diamonds” I can afford.  It’s hard to see in the photos, but I did wear a touch of glitter beneath my eyebrows:

Diamonds works really well with the goth aesthetic, since they’re usually colorless.  Perfect with black.  Stay tuned for April’s birth flower: the daisy.

Love & Shimmies,

Dasia Denise
