Countdown To Yuri’s Night 2015 – Space Pirates

This post is SO late, but I’m posting it anyway.  My motto seems to be, “better late than never”.  Life and depression got in the way and I just simply didn’t feel up to posting much.  This happens sometimes, since I have clinical depression.  All I can do is be kind and patient to myself, take a break, and then get back into the swing of things.

This past April, I attended the annual Countdown To Yuri’s Night (C2YN), hosted by Astro Pop Events.  This is the second time I attended this show and it was just as fun and delightful as last year’s event.  This year’s theme was Space Pirates.  My dearest friend, Matt, had a birthday in March so this was the perfect way to honor his birthday.  My sweetheart joined us as well, since he’s a space nerd.

Here’s what I wore.  I wore 3 layers of clothing (5 if you count my long-sleeved shirt and leggings underneath), all in black so they’re hard to see in these pictures.  My apologies.

Cropped, light sweater: Cryoflesh, Short dress: Dharma Trading Co., 25-yd. skirt & tabi boots: Ebay

Here’s my makeup.  None of my clothing has a space-age vibe, so I experimented with green eyeshadow.  I’ve never colored in my eyebrows with anything other than dark brown and black.  I thought that this was the perfect time to experiment with a new color.  I used the jumbo eye pencil by L.A. Colors® in “Summer Love #422” to color in my eyebrows.  Looking back, I could of pushed my look further, with some green glitter and false eyelashes, but I ran out of time.  Oh, well.  Maybe next time.

Before the show, we went to RFD Washington (Regional Food & Drink) for dinner and drinks.  If you’re a beer connoisseur, you would love this place.  Great food and over 300 beers to choose from.  I don’t drink beer often (I much prefer wine), but I did try a Kriek lambic, which is a Belgian beer.  Delicious!  I had the cherry-flavored one, but it also comes in peach, which I’ll be sure to try next time.  Be careful, though.  Kriek lambic tastes like a strong, carbonated juice, so it’s easy to drink more than one bottle.  I also tried the bison burger.  I’ve never had bison before and it was quite tasty.

Here are a few more pics from the show.  Unfortunately, I left my DSLR camera at home so I had to make do with my camera phone.  The pictures came out okay, but not great.  There’s only so much I could do with low lighting and lots of movement.  This is why there’s only a couple of photos of people in their costumes.  It’s such a bummer too, ’cause there were some fun costumes that night.  Sigh.

Sorry for the craptastic photos, and to add insult to injury, I accidentally deleted my videos from that night. I think I left my brain on the Metro or something, ’cause I’ve been a day late and a dollar short these past 3 weeks.  Sigh.  Next year I promise to get my act together.  In the meantime, live long and prosper!

I wanted this entry to be posted last week, but life got in the way.  It happens. Oh, well.

Two Saturday nights ago, my dear friend Matt and I went to an awesome event: Elvis’ Birthday Fight Club, hosted by Astro Pop Events.  It was cheesy, low-brow, and hilarious! But since we “don’t talk about the Fight Club”, we’ll just start with what I wore.

It would have been nice to dress in a 1950s outfit.  Unfortunately, I own nothing with a ’50s style.  So I just made do with rolled-up black jeans, black boots, and a black turtleneck.  Sort of more towards the beatnik side, I guess:

Turtleneck: secondhand, Studded belt: Ebay, Black jeans: Express, 10-eye boots: Doc Marten (brand)

My makeup was pretty minimal.  I used a very light, beige eyeshadow to brighten my eyes.  Of course, I had to wear black cat-eye liner and my cat-eye glasses:

Eyeglasses: Zenni Optical, Eyeball necklace: Ebay, Polka-dot flowers: Magic Tribal Hair (Etsy), Large cream-colored flower: Wendy Beth Creations (Etsy), small black flowers: H&M

“Hey! Get out of my selfie!”

When we got to the theatre, there was a merchandise table and they had Elvis ‘burns for sale.  The saleslady pointed out to me that they also had them in red.  What?!  Red?!  That matches my hair?  And they’re 2 bucks?  Sold!

With my darling friend, Matt

There’s a lot more pictures that I took in the galleries below.  I can’t “talk about the Fight Club”, but I can show you.  Ha ha!  I’m still getting the hang of decent photography, so the pics are a bit blurred.  So sorry.  But I hope you enjoyed seeing me with sideburns!

If you want to see some of the shenanigans that went on, you can take a look at the picture galleries, below Elvis’ picture.

Cherry Blossoms & Space-Age Burlesque – Part 4

My apologies for the delay in posting Part 4.  I have not been feeling well.

Anyways, here we are lovelies!  The 4th and final part to our adventure.  You’ll see pics of more costumes, more mingling, and folks just having a good time that ends with the Lunar Dance Party.

But before that, Matt and I spotted two Airstream trailers parked outside.  So adorable.  Honestly, I’ve been thinking of living in a bus/trailer/RV for a little while now.

I wish I could just dump everything and move in immediately.
