OOTD & MOTD for June’s Birth Flower: Rose

I’m switching things up a bit for this monthly post.  After a humid weekend, this week felt like Spring again.  Not wanting to “waste” perfect weather, I’m posting the birth flower post first.  It really doesn’t matter, but I wanted to wear my new fringe jacket before it gets too hot.

So here we go with June’s birth flower, Rose.  Most people think of red roses when roses are mentioned, but we all know that roses come in different colors. Each color has its own symbolism attached to it (see “COLORS” below).

Roses are millions of years old and have been cultivated for centuries.  It is believed that roses were “first cultivated around the Caspian Sea or Gulf of Persia”.  The oldest rose fossil was found in North America (Colorado) about 35 million years ago. For the ancient Greeks and Romans, roses represented love and passion.  Roses are also connected with the goddesses Aphrodite (Greek), Isis (Egyptian), and Venus (Roman).

TITLE: Flower of Love and Passion

TYPES: Over 150 species including “Eden”, Damask, Beach, and “Queen Elizabeth”

ORIGIN: Northern Hemisphere, including North Africa, Mexico, Europe and Asia

TYPE: Perennial

COLORS (SYMBOLISM): Red (romantic love), White (purity, reverence), Pink (admiration, grace), Yellow (friendship, caring), Orange (passion), Burgundy (beauty)

ZODIAC SIGN: Libra (September 23 – October 22)

USES: Commonly used for perfumes, oils, skin lotions, and soap.  Rose hips are used in tea and natural supplements.

Here’s what I wore.  I won an Ebay auction (woot!) and scored the blue fringe jacket for 30 bucks!  Great purchase, considering that these jackets easily go for $100 or more.  Since the weather was more Spring-like yesterday, I decided to wear my new jacket which has velvet roses on it.  Nothing screams “boho” like a fringe jacket.  I’m also pleased that I found a jacket in royal blue, my favorite shade of blue:

PROJECT 666 Staples: Tunic dress (D4), 15-yard skirt (Skt5), Blue floral fringe jacket (J6), High-top moccasin sandals (Snd2)

Tunic dress and 15-yard skirt: Amazon, Blue fringe jacket: Ebay, Shoes: Medieval Moccasins

Black spike earrings: Ashley Elaine Designs (Etsy), Vintage wooden rosary: Krombholz Jewelers (Etsy), Seed bead necklace: World Market

Here’s yesterday’s face.  No eyeshadow – just mascara, eyeliner, and lashes for my eyes:

The weather we’ve been experiencing has been schizophrenic, to say the least.  After Spring-like weather, it’s supposed to be hot and humid again this weekend.  Stay tuned for posts on June’s birthstone and belly dance.  I’ve included an OOTD video below, featuring another ATS® dance move.

OOTD – Wednesday’s Gothic Bohemian

Hola, my dear lovelies.  The weather has been consistently warm, although yesterday was a bit cool and gray.  I’m hoping the warm weather is here to stay for awhile.  I’m ready to put away the winter clothes and start rocking my warm weather threads!

Here’s what I wore.  I consider myself a gothic bohemian, so this floral velvet shawl is right up my alley.  With my large eyeglasses, I can see myself wearing this 30 years later with my significant other and a couple of black cats, drinking a glass of red wine.  A black rocking chair would complete my “old lady” look (ha ha).

PROJECT 666 Staples: Floral velvet shawl (J4), Black “high-low” shirt (S13), Black skirt (Skt1), Black leggings (P5), 20-eye boots (B3)

1990s Floral velvet shawl: Gypsy Goth Vintage (Etsy), “High-low” shirt: Amazon, Skirt and leggings: Ebay, 20-eye boots: Doc Martens (brand)

Silver spike earrings: Opulent Oddities (Etsy), Black choker w/ black gems: Ego Driven (Etsy), Seed bead necklace: World Market, Silver & onyx ring: Gibson’s Vintage Shop (Etsy), Other rings: street vendors in DC

Here’s my face.  No heavy makeup this time, since I’m wearing glasses.  These glasses aren’t the most flattering on me, but I still like them.  But my roots?  Oof.  Looks like I’ll need to re-dye them very soon.

I hope you enjoyed this short post.  I have a dance performance this Saturday and I’m getting pumped.  Woo!  In the meantime, I’ll leave you lovelies with this OOTD video.  TTFN!

Love & Shimmies,

Dasia Denise
