Back From The Ashes: July, August & September

Gemstone pics via Photobucket.  Gemstone info via Crystal Vaults.

Hello again, dear lovelies.  This is Part 2 of my birthstone outfits.  This post covers my birthstone outfits from July to September.  Bright red, lime green, and deep blue – all great colors to add to a gothic wardrobe.  Whether it’s your hair, shoes, or accessories, adding color to either of these attributes will pop against an all-black outfit.

JULY – Ruby

This video starts off with me talking about the layoff from my job, but it is also an OOTD video.  Ruby is an obvious favorite since it matches my hair color.  My outfit is towards the end of the video, starting at 05:11.

TITLE: The Stone of Nobility

COLORS: Colorless, light pink, pink, red, and crimson

CHAKRA: Root (1)

ZODIAC SIGN:  Cancer (June 22 – July 22)

SYMBOLIZES: Passion, Protection, Prosperity, The Sun

AUGUST – Peridot

Lime green and black are perfect for gothic fashion.  The black horns and lace complete the outfit.  Peridot is only one of two gemstones formed from molten rock, not from the Earth’s crust.  The other gemstone formed from molten rock is the Diamond.

TITLES: Gem Of The Sun, Evening Emerald, True Topaz

COLORS: Yellow, yellow-green, olive green, lime green

CHAKRA: Heart (4)

ZODIAC SIGN:  Leo (July 23 – August 22)

SYMBOLIZES: Passion, Vitality, The Sun

SEPTEMBER – Sapphire

I’m wearing blue lipstick again.  I was inspired by sapphires – how could I not wear blue lipstick?  The outfit’s pretty basic: just a t-shirt, sparkly belt, and black pantaloons.  Sapphires also represent royalty and divinity.

TITLE: The Stone of Wisdom

COLORS: Black, green, orange, pink, white, yellow, violet, and various shades of blue

CHAKRAS: Throat (5), Third Eye (6)

ZODIAC SIGN:  Virgo (August 23 – September 23)

SYMBOLIZES: Power, Strength, Kindness, Wisdom

Well, that’s it.  We’re now back on track with the birthstone outfits.  It’s a good thing too, since we’re now in October – just 2 more months until the end of the year.  Stay tuned for October’s outfit, inspired by its birthstone, Opal.

Peace, love, and darkness,

Dasia Denise

OOTD & MOTD for July’s Birthstone: Ruby

Hello, fellow darklings.  Today’s outfit is inspired by the Ruby, birthstone for July.  Called the “King of Gems”, the ruby has been revered by many cultures. Rubies symbolize the Sun and have been used as talismans, representing “passion, protection and prosperity”.  Rubies also symbolize love and passion, were used to warn the wearer of danger, and “banished sadness and foolish thoughts”.  The most prized and valuable rubies are vivid medium to dark red. Rubies that are purplish-red are also of high value.

TITLE: King of Gems

COLORS: Pink, bright red to blood red, purplish-red

TYPE: Corundum

ZODIAC SIGN: Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

DEITY: Sekhmet, Egyptian goddess of war.

DIVINATION: “Value friends and family even if they seem temporarily dull.”

CHAKRA: Root (1)

HEALING PROPERTIES: Stimulates the blood and heart, increases desire and sexual energy, promotes mental clarity, and increases concentration and motivation.

Here’s what I wore.  It seems to be that red is my color.  It’s not surprising, considering that’s the color I dye my hair.  Honestly, I do like how I look in red and black.

PROJECT 666 Staples: Black lace dress (D5), 20-eye boots (B3)

Here’s my face.  I decided to rock some red eyeshadow for July’s birthstone.  I love Ben Nye’s® Lumiere Creme Colours eye makeup collection.  It goes on smoothly, lasts all day, and the colors are so vivid!

All accessories purchased from Etsy. Black fang earrings: Ashley Elaine Designs, Silver monogrammed “wax seal” necklace: J and A Wares Jewelry, Vampire Red Gem necklace: Reneeroxx Shop

I was really inspired by this gemstone.  I like all of the gemstones, but rubies are among my favorites.  While I do love the simplicity and exquisiteness of the four precious gemstones: Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire, my favorite gemstone is Amethyst – it’s purple and it’s also my birthstone.

What’s your favorite gemstone?

Love & Shimmies,

Dasia Denise

(Improvised) Makeup & OOTD for July’s Birthstone: Ruby

Today’s look is inspired by July’s birthstone, the Ruby.  Also known as “the king of gems”, the ruby represents “love, passion, courage and emotion”.  Second only to the diamond in hardness, rubies are considered the most rare and hence, the most valuable gemstone.  Rubies can range in color from purplish- and bluish-red (cool reds) to an orange-red (warm reds).  The most prized rubies come in a “medium or medium-dark vivid red” and have the most value.  The “Burmese Ruby” comes in a vivid, bluish-red that is “only associated with the Mogok Valley mines in Myanmar”.

Before we get to my improvised makeup look, here’s what I wore.  Just a simple dress and skirt for hot and humid weather:

Short dress: Dharma Trading Co., 25-yd. skirt: Ebay, Boots: Steve Madden (brand)

All of these accessories were purchased on Etsy – Large red bindi: SewFae, Silver spike earrings: Opulent Oddities, Choker with red gems: Ego Driven, Bat necklace: Kitsch Bitch Jewellery

Now for my improvised makeup look.  Here’s what happened: I had a dance performance this weekend and placed my makeup bag and brushes in my dance bag.  Fortunately, I remembered to put my makeup bag in my everyday bag.  Unfortunately, I forgot my makeup brushes, which I keep in a small, slim box.  I already had the jewelry and the outfit for July’s birthstone, so I had to do something.  I didn’t want to go without makeup, so I decided to apply my makeup sans brushes.

Here’s what I had to work with: Younique mascara set, M.A.C. lip liner in “Nightmoth”, L.A. Colors® jumbo eye pencil in “Sunglasses”, Manic Panic lipstick in “Black Rose, Lipcote lip sealer, red sticker jewels, and an eyelash curler.

I didn’t do too bad, but of course it would have looked 10x better using makeup brushes.  One good thing from this experiment was using the burgundy lip pencil on my eyebrows.  I thought it looked too reddish at first, but it has grown on me – the color matches my hair.  I’ll try this look again, using the proper tools.

Love & Shimmies,

Dasia Denise
