Hello, fellow darklings. Today is Winter Solstice, which marks the first official day of Winter and also the longest night (and shortest day) of the year. Unfortunately, I “celebrated” Winter by having a nasty cold all week. Yuck! Fortunately, I’m feeling a lot better.
Today’s outfit is very simple. I’m working on simplifying my wardrobe (post coming up soon) and today it’s just a skirt, a sweater, leggings, and a pair of boots. It’s also been raining, so no long skirts or pants for today.
I decided on dark makeup for Winter Solstice: dark eyes and dark lips. Instead of my usual bindi, I’m wearing on 2 stamped diamonds on my forehead. Nothing sparkly – just simple and dark.
Well, that’s it for today. My apologies for the short (but simple – *wink*) post. The next couple of posts will be pretty short as well, since they will be year-in-review posts. Christmas is this Friday and I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday!
My dreads are now half a year old. With Halloween and my Raq Out performance now done, I’m finally able to post my progress on my “babies”. They are still looking crazy and I still love them. I’m growing more and more attached to them as the days go by. It’s an incredible journey into my crazy hair.
I decided that the “half-way mark” of my locs deserved a fresh dye job. I was thinking of bleaching the roots, but I think I will wait until they’re at least a year old, although I don’t really mind having dark roots now. Since I dye my dark roots along with my locs, they just blend together. I may never bleach them, to be honest. I have nothing against bleach (obviously), but even bleach at a low volume (I used 20v on my loose hair) is damaging to the hair.
We’ll start with my outfit of the day. I wore the blue tunic dress again. It seems I’m always wearing this dress at the beginning of the month, but it rained yesterday and this dress, along with my 20-eye Doc Martens, are nice to wear on such days.
Here’s my makeup. It’s hard to see in these pictures, but I added a little bit of glitter to my eyelids. The glitter is Too Faced® Glitter Dust** in “Nude Beam”. The glitter bits are small, perfect for when I want to wear glitter with minimal bling.
**I purchased this online, but now I can’t seem to find it to provide a link. Has this product been discontinued?
My progress so far, from loose hair to now:
I’ve noticed a significant change between last month and now. Not only is my hair darker at the roots after re-dying them, but my locs are not sticking out like they did in October. I was sort of bummed, but then I remembered that I do want long locs. It looks like they are starting to “lie down” a bit. After realizing this I’m delighted!
Yesterday, I attended my niece’s graduation from kindergarten. I have never been to a graduation where the graduates were so small! I almost died from cuteness overload! Absolutely adorable. Since I knew that I would be around kids, I kept my outfit simple and comfortable. It’s a good thing I did that, ’cause my niece pulled me in to dance with her and her fellow graduates!
Here’s what I wore. Like I mentioned, I didn’t want anything too fussy. It’s also getting more hot and humid, so just the basics would do. However, I did add a little flair to my shoes with shoe clips purchased on Ebay:
Here’s my simple makeup. This is basically my “summer-face”. I prefer keeping my makeup light for when I wear glasses, which are a must for anything involving education (ha ha):
Below my signature are a few more pictures of my niece’s graduation. I had so much fun! I enjoyed seeing these little ones graduate, sing and dance. And there were colors galore! Be sure to check out the brightly colored cupcakes. I seriously wanted to enroll at this school!
